2012.09.24 Sleeping People - NOTRUF

Color: Black

Released: 2012, September 4

Label: Temporary Residence Limited

This is good. Real good. It’s only two songs… but it’s quality stuff and kind of a pleasant surprise that Sleeping People have returned. Some would dismiss this as music from a bygone era. It could easily be called “math rock” but there’s more depth than that for sure. First track “Klinik” makes use of some different textures, specifically hand claps and piano, which help make it more than just your average angular, tempo-shifting guitar rock. I’m not complaining at all, but it’s nice to see some new breath infused into a familiar set up. The B-side, “Polizei” showcases some nice fretwork in the upper register… briefly sounding like The Minibosses (remember them?) covering a passage from something like Castlevania. I missed out on the limited run of navy colored wax, but the front and back cover still features some great illustration work. On Temporary Residence… so no surprise here that it’s exceptional stuff.
