2012.09.11 Electric Hawk - Electric Hawk

Color: Black

Released: 2011, December(?)

Label: Listening Grade Music

Currently my favorite thing, musically. I just barely missed their set opening for Shiner in Chicago a few weeks ago, but at the insistence of my friends from there, I gave this record a shot. Like the True Widow record, I was pleasantly surprised. Except, with Electric Hawk, I can’t stop listening. Especially the track “Supple Demon.” To me… and this is not intended as a slight to another heavy instrumental Chicago band… this fills the void that everything after Russian Circle’s Enter left. I like all that other RC stuff… but there’s been something missing and Electric Hawk makes up for it and then some. Heavy. Mathy. Tuneful. Awesome. Fucking great bass tone, too. The cover’s one color illustration in red on a black field feels perfect for this record. It’s like you look at it and there is no doubt that this record will be tough-as-shit heavy with some soaring guitar parts that are the soundtrack to epic battles won. The type on the back cover looks like something out of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie (a good thing in this instance) but a bit more sinister. Make no mistake - There’s ALWAYS some good shit coming out of Chicago.
