2012.08.14 Russian Circles / These Arms Are Snakes split 12”

Color: Clear

Released: 2008, November 22

Label: Sargent House

I love how minimal and beautiful this disk and it’s packaging are. Clear vinyl: check. White ink screen printed on a clear surface so you can see the vinyl: check. Big type: check. Map illustration: check. It’s nice to look at for sure. It’s no secret that I maintain a staunch position on Russian Circles’ earliest material being their best. But here the band turn in one of their most gorgeous compositions ever. One that sort of reignited my interest in them, to be sure. In addition - I was always on the fence about These Arms Are Snakes, but I quite enjoy their two contributions to this affair. The last time I saw Russian Circles in a live setting they still counted their original bassist within their ranks. Tonight I hope to catch them live at favorite venue The Earl, here in ATL.
