2012.08.07 Deerhoof - Apple O’

Color: Transparent Blue
Released: 2003, March 18
Label: Kill Rock Stars
I have my girlfriend to thank for really getting me to listen to Deerhoof. My interest was piqued when I heard a little bit of the band while shopping at Grimey’s in Nashville a few years earlier. But I never explored much further until the band led off the first mix my girlfriend ever made me. I liked what I heard so I then asked her what album she thought I should start with. The answer was Apple O’. And thus it is usually my go-to Deerhoof album. But not entirely based on my significant other’s recommendation. It’s hard to deny infectious numbers like “Panda Panda Panda” and “Flower” with the memorable hooky riffs. Deerhoof bring their sloppy, fun, rock and roll A-game on this record. A good place to start if you’re not familiar. The album packaging is adorned by drawings that mirror the playful, slightly off kilter nature of the band’s music.
