2012.07.20 Mogwai - Mexican Grand Prix

Color: Black
Released: 2011, February 7
Label: Rock Action
You know Mogwai are putting out some of their best material when even the B-sides sound like essential listening that could have easily made the cut of the album. Instead “Slight Domestic” is relegated to the b-side of a single containing the motorik infused scorcher, “Mexican Grand Prix,” from their most recent full length, Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will. “Slight Domestic” could be the distant cousin of a song like “Friend Of The Night” from Mr. Beast. It prominently features piano coupled with big guitars and is certainly just as emotionally compelling, if not more. The aesthetic of the design is a nod toward the design of some of their earlier singles and therefor makes these songs feel right at home along side some of the classic compositions that were adorned with similar layouts.
