2012.07.06 The Ventures - The Ventures

Color: Black
Released: 1966, February
Label: Dolton Records
Something a little different. This record is an ode to those records bought on the cheap or acquired for free. I started a new job and all I have to do is spin my chair around and I am greeted by an old Ventex player and a crate full of old records. The office faves so far seem to be The Cars and Ray Charles. So here’s a record that was actually given to me by my boss at my old job… A record that I feel would fit in very easily with the rest of the collection at the new office. The Ventures are reigning kings when it comes to the whole surf instrumental genre. The inclusion of the Batman TV theme and “Secret Agent Man” make this a fun nostalgic trip. You gotta love stuff like this. Everyone needs to own a Ventures record, no? The big typography and bright colors fit the era perfectly - get ready for a well choreographed trip to a world almost forgotten but just as important musically as anything happening today. Records like these are just fun to accumulate.
