2012.07.02 The Books - The Lemon Of Pink

Color: Black

Released: 2003, October 7

Label:  Tomlab

I had heard of The Books before (mostly I had seen some gorgeous posters made for the band), but I wasn’t formally introduced to the band until the Spring of 2009, high a top a hill in the Luberon Valley in southern France. During a printmaking class, while studying abroad for two and half months, a fellow student put on this record and I was instantly a fan. I distinctly remember listening to it while writing a paper for an art history class. At one point I took a break and stared out a window of the 2nd of story of the Library on campus (which was supposedly a bakery at one point), which gave me a tremendous view of the entire valley - during this moment “A True Story of a Story of True Love” was playing and it was like I was experiencing something so perfectly choreographed in a Wes Anderson movie or the like. I’ll forever associate The Books with that time in my life. Few can take random bits of found sound and craft them together into something that seems like a cohesive whole. I’m fortunate not only that I was introduced to them but was also able to catch them live twice before their recent disbanding.
