2012.06.21 Collections Of Colonies Of Bees - Six Guitars

Color: Clear

Release Date: 2008, May 22

Label: Table of the Elements

After being turned on to Collections of Colonies of Bees and their amazing Birds record I went through my usual ritual of finding out everything I could about a band and getting my hands on everything they’ve released into the world. In my search I stumbled upon their plans to release this one sided LP. I already anticipated loving this thing. A. It was new music from a band I had recently fallen in love with. B. It was being offered on clear vinyl with an etching from artist Savage Pencil on the B-side. Win-win, yeah? And then comes the music… and the heady concept around the music - which the band provided an extra layer of experience by mapping out the composition and giving a bit more insight into just what the hell is going on. (Including drummer Jon Mueller using the sixth guitar as a percussive element.) “Six Guitars” is such a beautiful meditative piece - I would often play this piece on the turntable and just zone out and let my mind drift. I think I once even studied for an exam with only this on and then listened once again just prior to said exam. Needless to say I aced that fucker.
