Sad to say, but this is not my favorite EITS record. I like it just fine. But in the grand scheme of things I think it fell short of everything else that preceded it. In between their last proper studio album the band had gained quite a bit of attention, had their music featured in a Cadillac commercial, scored a film and released an EP of tunes written one per day for 8 days. Maybe it was hype or expectation mounting so high? Whatever the case, something is missing. There is still music entirely worth listening to here - I remember constantly listening to “Catastrophe and The Cure” on my walk from where I’d park in downtown Nashville to the shop when I interned at Hatch Show Print. A time I consider one of the best times of my life. That and “What Do You Go Home To” makes great use of piano during it’s haunting intro - a piece of arsenal the band first starting using on their excellent Travels In Constants Series EP. The art is also my least favorite of any EITS release. ‘not sure why… just doesn’t strike me the way the other releases do. In spite of this, side “D” of the wax features a really cool etched reproduction of the cover.
